Fall events in and around Cambridge and Somerville, 2022

ree

Beautiful weather we’ve been having, huh? We’ve finally left behind the oppressive humidity (why was there so much moisture in the air, and yet here we are in a drought?), our days are drier and cooler, and the leaves are starting to change. You might feel a need to pick apples, go to an outdoor concert, or attend a fair. If so, we’ve got you covered at Liz & Ellie Local. Here are a few of our favorite outdoor happenings for this weekend.

Here are nine events happening in and around the Somerville/Cambridge area this weekend, September 16-18. The weather forecast looks promising, so find a few events to attend with family and friends! Let us know where you go :)

1) What the Fluff? Festival in Union Square, Somerville. Celebrate Somerville’s history of innovation with music, games, and food (featuring Marshmallow Fluff, which was invented in Somerville)!

2) Project Misik: In a Neponset River Yard In Pope John Paul II Park, Boston. Project Misik creates safe, outdoor spaces for interactive workshops and performances, featuring BIPOC folkx & stories.

3) Caribbean Rum and Food Festival at Roxbury Community College. This 21+ event will showcase Caribbean products, renowned rums and Caribbean cocktails, as well as arts, crafts, and entertainment.

5) Apple picking and farm visits near Boston. My favorites include Smolak Farms in North Andover and Lookout Farm in Natick. Or, head up to Russell Orchards in Ipswich, then continue on to the magnificent Crane Beach and Estate.

6) King Richard’s Faire in Carver, MA is a Renaissance Festival that’s been coming to MA for over 40 years. There will be food, entertainment, and rides (and lots of people dressed in Renaissance clothes calling each other “M’lady” and “M’lord”).

7) SerbFest 2022 in Somerville. Get a tour of the Saint Sava Orthodox Cathedral, enjoy live music, homemade food, and learn about Serbian culture.

8) Welcoming Week Chalk Art Project at Somerville Central Public Library. Visit the library with friends and family, bring some chalk or borrow some at the event, and share what makes you feel welcome in your community! This event is on Friday the 16th.

9) Somerville Museum’s exhibit entitled “Sanctuary City” will open on Friday, September 16. View artwork from emerging and established artists who create works through the lens of the immigrant experience.
